How breed changes your premium

Insurers price on the conditions a breed is predisposed to and how expensive they are to treat. Brachycephalic breeds (French Bulldogs, Pugs), giant breeds, and breeds with high cancer or cardiac rates cost more to insure; hardy mixed breeds and most small terriers cost less. Fur Forecast models this into a risk tier per breed — see how we estimate.

Questions

Are these real quotes?
No — they’re modeled estimates for comparison, built from each breed’s health predispositions and published US market rate ranges. Use the insurer links for an actual quote tailored to your pet, ZIP code, and coverage choices.
Does age change the cost?
Yes, a lot. Premiums rise as pets age and pre-existing conditions are excluded, so enrolling young is usually cheapest. The estimator adjusts for your pet’s age band.
What about my dog’s feeding?
Keeping a pet at a healthy weight lowers claim risk for many conditions. Use the portion calculator next.
